Origin and Evolution

Educational Psychologists Association of Nigeria: from epAN to EdupsyAN.

In 2002, the Council of Nigerian Youths (CNY), utilizing the World Bank Institute Manual on Development, convened a meeting with diverse youth leaders to address critical educational issues. This gathering marked a pivotal moment, leading to the transformation of CNY into Saving Lives Nigeria (SALIN) and the subsequent development of the "See People, See Value" (Project SEE) initiative.

  • Building upon this foundation, the concept of an Educational Psychologists Association of Nigeria (EdupsyAN) emerged in 2007. This initiative was conceived to tackle the crucial issue of career choice among Nigerian youth, starting from their foundational years. Team Destiny was tasked with engaging teachers in Edo, Abuja, Kaduna, and Lagos States to discuss this critical issue.

However, the formation of EdupsyAN faced significant hurdles due to financial and political crises that persisted from 2008 onwards. It wasn't until 2011, with the crucial support and guidance of organizations like SALIN, YiPS, and MyNOL and well meaning platforms that EdupsyAN was officially established with a clear set of aims and objectives focused on developing strategies for the growth and development of the Nigerian education sector.

Currently, EdupsyAN is actively recruiting teachers to participate in its initiatives and empower them to become agents of change. The association is dedicated to helping children and youth thrive academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. Through collaboration with educators, parents, and other professionals, EdupsyAN strives to create safe, nurturing, and supportive learning environments that foster strong connections between home, school, and the community for all students.
